Another 1-day visit as far as I can determine, in this instance for an ADL-arranged group booking on one of the 5519 Association's outings with their Austrian-built ex-CFL 2-10-0, 5519.
Saturday 30 April 1994
This appears to have been an overnight/tour/overnight exercise from Dover, using service trains to get from Oostende to Luxembourg where it seems that the morning was left free for participants to do their own thing. As far as Luxembourg was concerned, we'd covered most of the system on the BLS Tour de Luxe a few months earlier but a few bits remained outstanding (it was to be years before I did the cross border line to Longwy). The steam tour was called the ARBED express, ARBED wisely being commonly used rather than the company's catchy full name of Aciéries Réunies de Burbach-Eich-Dudelange. In 2002 ARBED became part of Arcelor, and in 2006 Arcelor in turn became part of Arcelor-Mittal.
This was, according to rail.lu, the first passenger working of 5519 to the ARBED lines in the south of Luxembourg. I've had difficulty, even with the help of Mark Waller's railtours page (again), in sorting out the tour route though it does seem that we covered a fair amount of the route mileage (as opposed to track mileage) of the extensive ARBED system centred on Belval and Differdange. If anyone reading this has any detail of what was done, or even (I'm hoping for at least a small miracle here, I know!) an annotated diagram of the route, then please don't hesitate to get in touch using the Contact link at the top of the page. Eternal gratitude is guaranteed if it enables me to make more sense of the day. For the moment all I have to offer on the subject is the photos taken on the day.

1994 was starting to look busy. A month later it appears that I did another day trip, this time to Belgium for ADL's West & Central Branches tour.
